Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line an 8″ or 9″ loaf pan with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the sifted flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and baking powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth. Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, milk, and melted butter. Whisk until combined.
Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined — a few lumps are fine. Do not overmix. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 65–70 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean and the top is deep golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before lifting out. Slice and serve warm.
